Client Information (Students)

This sheet provides you with useful information to help you to make the most of therapy. If you have any questions, please ask me.

Registration & Ethical Practice

I am an accredited and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and listed on their Register of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (certificate number 034194). I am also a full Clinical Psychotherapist member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI). I adhere to the ethical frameworks for all three organisations. These documents are available upon request.

Confidentiality

Our work together is confidential, except in specific legal and professional circumstances.

  • If I believe you are laundering money, drug trafficking, contemplating acts of terrorism or at risk of seriously harming yourself or others, where possible, I will endeavour to discuss these with you prior to taking any action.
  • For the purposes of supervision and continuing professional development, I discuss my work with more senior professionals bound by the same ethical frameworks. In these discussions, you remain anonymous.
  • I keep records of session attendance and minimal notes of our sessions together. These are not identified by name and are stored securely. No individual or professional body has access to these notes, unless there is a court order subpoenaing the information in the event of a court case or official investigation.
  • For the purpose of continuing professional development, I may submit written material of sessions for evaluation. Any such material will be disguised to protect your identity and will only be reviewed by clinicians bound by the same or compatible ethical frameworks. All notes and personal details are stored in line with the Data Protection Act 2018 (see separate GDPR sheet).

Therapeutic Process

If we decide to work together, we will initially meet for an agreed number of sessions. A review session will occur at the end of these sessions and we can consider together whether the therapy is working for you. Sessions are 50 minutes, beginning at the agreed time. Any sessions beginning after this time will be finished on time. I require 48 hours’ notice if you intend on cancelling. If I have to cancel your session, I will give you as much notice as possible, the fee will be waivered and another appointment arranged at the earliest opportunity.

There may be times when you feel distressed or believe therapy is not helping you. It is important to talk about these difficulties and not to stop coming. The ending of therapy is something we negotiate together as it is important.

Fees

The cost is £40 per session. Payment is by cash, cheque or card at the end of the session. Invoices and bank transfers can be arranged on request.
